C.A.F.E. Practices

C.A.F.É. Practices–a green coffee sourcing program developed by Starbucks in collaboration with Conservation International and Scientific Certification Systems, Inc.  This certification was established to evaluate, recognize, and reward producers for growing sustainable, high-quality coffee.

Fairtrade International

Fairtrade International – a social movement to improve trading conditions and promote sustainable coffee. The overarching goals are to promote:

  • Income sustainability for producers
  • Individual and community well-being
  • Environmental stewardship

Organic certification

Organic agriculture is the application of a set of cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that support the cycling of on-farm resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. To be labeled as organic in the United States and the European Union, a product must be:
  • Produced without excluded methods (e.g., genetic engineering, ionizing radiation, or sewage sludge)
  • Produced using allowed substances
  • Overseen by certifying agents
